37350 De Portola Road, Temecula, CA, 92592
Temecula wine country seems to be split into two camps, the ever popular wineries on the main road of Rancho California and what some describe as the arguably more “authentic” wineries closer to the mountains and horse properties on De Portola Road. I actually love them both! The exciting news is Temecula wine country is booming and there are many new wineries popping up in both locations as well as many new areas in between!
Today I wanted to discuss a fabulous find on De Portola called Robert Renzoni. The Renzoni family purchased this property back in 2006 and opened its doors in Spring of 2008. It is a very popular winery and I am glad we stumbled on it years ago. This is one of our go to spots if we want to chill out for a weekend afternoon and/or take folks for a leisurely and delicious outdoor lunch.
The winery sits up on a hill and looks like a beautiful Italian villa estate. The only negative about this place is the parking. If you are lucky enough to find a space in the small lot up front then you are fine, otherwise, it is a bit of a walk and on a dirt and gravel area. That aside, it is totally worth it! You are guaranteed to have a good time here!
I love that they have a lot of outdoor seating starting with a large courtyard patio area in the front with a beautiful fountain, a members only comfortable couch and small dining area with covered terrace and people misters, as well as a large area out back where the restaurant, outdoor fireplace and live entertainment is. They have a very large indoor wine tasting room with a cute shop inside as well and members have access to a secret room that is reminiscent of an English pub with a fireplace for delicious and cozy tastings when maybe the weather is on the cooler side.
I have tried their whites but they are better known for their reds and those are definitely my preference here. Renzoni has a nice range of very drinkable wine and I am sure you will find one that you love! Two of my wife and my favorites are their Sangiovese and their Big Fred’s Red (which is a delicious blend). They also have some higher end library wines that are delicious, with my favorite being their Super Tuscan called Fiore di Fano. Definitely worth trying!
Now let’s talk about their food…it is absolutely delicious!!!! My favorites here are their bruschetta, they have an amazing artichoke platter, delicious salads, and you must get one of their pizza’s…Julia’s favorite is our go to! Al fresco dining, while listening to live entertainment, enjoying a delicious bottle of red, with gorgeous mountains and rolling hills in the backdrop, what better way to spend an afternoon??!!
The next time you want to try somewhere new, schedule this winery into your calendar, it is definitely worth it!!! If you are like us, you will probably not leave without becoming a member on your first visit! Enjoy my Friends! Saluti!!!
